Being a Judge

His Honor Christopher Stride is the circuit judge in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit of Lake County and was appointed to that position by the Illinois Supreme Court to fill a vacancy.  He will serve in that position from January 26, 2016 until December 3, 2018. To maintain his position as circuit judge after December 3, 2018, Stride will have to be nominated in the March 2018 primary and elected in the November 2018 general election.

Appointed as an associate judge August 22, 2005, Judge Stride has served in the traffic/misdemeanor division, heard felony cases and is currently presiding over Lake County’s Specialty Mental Health, Drug, and Veteran’s Treatment and Assistance Courts.

Judge Stride is a former prosecutor with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. In between two stints in the State’s Attorney’s Office, he was in private practice where he served as the chief municipal prosecutor for the Villages of Wauconda, Green Oaks, Round Lake Heights and the City of Park City.

Judge Stride graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in May 1986 and from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1991.

Stride is a member of the Illinois Judges Association and the Lake County Bar Association. He and his wife Julie have three children. He is a life-long resident of Lake County.
