![]() Auto Racing
Mar 29, 2023
Ralph Hansen’s experience in racing dates back to 1967 when he first became friends with Anton “Tony” Hulman, the owner of The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Upon graduating from Indiana State University in 1970, Ralph went to work during the racing season at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway as an assistant to Tony Hulman. From 1970 to 1978, Ralph got to know many race team owners and drivers. He became aware that they needed help in acquiring and managing corporate sponsors, as there were little or no professional sports marketing operations at the time. In 1985 Ralph was introduced to the highly respected IndyCar team owner, Carl Haas, by his good friend Jack Safro. During the first year of Ralph’s involvement with Carl Haas and Paul Newman, he conceived of what is now the most successful sponsorship acquisition concept today. Still referred to by many as the “Kmart concept,” it was the idea of a major retailer working with its vendors to support a significant sponsorship program. These programs had never been tried before their introduction by Ralph and Pegasus Marketing Group. Many years later, and with over 400 hundred million dollars in sponsorship raised, the concept is still valid and in use today around the world. Ralph has innovated other major creative programs for prominent companies like Eli Lilly and Company, McDonald’s Corporation, as well as many others. Believing in and following “The Golden Rule” has been the standard that Ralph and his firm continue to live and do business by today. Host: John Looby |

Apr 19, 2023
Jason will provide an update on City's improvments to the athletic fields at Deerpath Community Park. At the Lake Forest City Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 21, the City Council formally approved construction of synthetic turf athletic fields and additional park amenities at Deerpath Community Park. City Council approved the base athletic field project for $12.9 million plus $3.1 million for additional amenities, including two restroom buildings with shaded open air pavilions, a playground, fitness stations, and natural area enhancements. Other park improvements include new tennis courts and the City’s first dedicated pickleball courts in the existing court footprint. This project is the culmination of a years-long planning effort that began with City Council approval of a Parks and Recreation Master Plan in 2019. Host: Fred Jackson |

![]() Sustainable Landscapes
May 31, 2023
While my landscape design has been strongly influenced by the traditional architecture prevalent on the North Shore of Chicago, and of which any good landscape architecture is meant to compliment-I have always been especially passionate about the natural world. Promoting a healthy environment and richer outdoor experience by including plants that attract wildlife such as song birds, butterflies, and pollinating insects, etc, back into the landscape has always been part of the “program”. Recognizing that we are presently experiencing the most critical decline in native wildlife populations ever recorded, primarily due to habitat loss-and my potential for championing positive change-has prompted me to leave my family business and found my new company: LandServe, LLC...“Landscapes for life!”. Through ‘LandServe’ I have the opportunity to promote a unique “hybrid” design approach for “true”, long-term sustainability: landscapes with “widely accepted visual appeal” utilizing native plants and other locally resourced materials. By creating landscapes which meet the client’s needs for function and aesthetics, I’m able to make my case for including native plant species in literally all landscapes and land developments, of any scale or style! As such, both the needs of my clients and creature are served! I brought my own special skill sets to bear in helping create the largest privately-held residential landscape company in the country. I understand the enduring legacies that will stand the test of time are not only the many landscape designs that I’ve created in the past, but more importantly, the healthier, environmentally responsible landscapes I am providing now as I lead my new company - 'LandServe, LLC...Landscapes for life!'- into the future.
